Excava opens a dedicated heavy fabrication plant for attachments

Why a second plant
Attachments are a different kind of work from sheet metal. Buckets, hanger brackets and heavy structures are built from thick plate, need bigger machines to cut, bend and roll it, and need machining and fitting before they are finished. Giving heavy fabrication its own plant keeps both lines running at full pace, without one waiting on the other.

What’s inside
The heavy fabrication plant is equipped for thick plate from the first cut to final inspection:

• Cutting: a Trumpf 12 kW and a Bystronic 3 kW fibre laser, a 330 A plasma cutter and a shearing machine for plate up to 16 mm.
• Forming: a 360 T press brake with a 4 m bed, a 225 T JFY press brake, a 3 m Davi plate rolling machine and a 150 T hydraulic press.
• Welding: 500 A welding sets for heavy joints.
• Machining & fitting: lathe, drilling SPM, drill machine and MNTR machine, a surface grinder, bush pressing and toe plate straightening.
• Finishing: shot blasting with a 2-pack liquid coating rated for 500 hours of salt spray, plus a dedicated powder coating facility for heavy parts.
• Inspection: a coordinate measuring machine (CMM) with a 3D scanner.

What we build there
The plant produces our attachment range: excavator buckets customised for different capacities, hanger brackets from 10–32 mm plate, and heavy fabrications of up to 2.5 tonnes made from 10–40 mm plate in EN10355 SJ2 and Hardox 500.

With light and heavy fabrication now in one company, OEMs can source canopies, sheet-metal assemblies and heavy attachments from one ISO 9001:2015-certified partner, with the same quality system, traceability and delivery discipline across both plants.
